iBooks / Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs has a knack for throwing off Apple watchers with his masterful misdirections. When talking to The New York Times in January 2008, he commented on Amazon's Kindle in an ironic tone: "Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. The whole conception (e-book) is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore." Two years later, Jobs announced iBooks, a free iPad app defined as "a novel way to buy and read books" by Apple.
