Digg in 1849

Maybe there is a machine, instead of a super being, watching us and recording every thread of information flowing between people? Like a mainframe, it counts and organize our announcements, discoveries, recognitions and refuters? The "Book of All Books", today, is called Digg. As a unique medium, it could best serve the Gold Rush 150 years ago. When people were running desperately for gold, sufficient information was determining whether you got rich or die trying.

这世界当然不止有 Google 和 Twitter 两种信息传播方式，还有一种同样非常有趣的方式。想象一下，如果冥冥之中，有一台神秘的计数器，统计着这个世界上所有信息被传播、被认可、被记住的次数，并给它们排序，那这个无穷长的「沙之书」应该是怎样的？在我们这个时代，它叫 Digg。它是一种独特的媒体。恰好和 150 年前的淘金热有着一种奇妙的互文：在一个流言蜚语不绝的时代，就像淘金热时，如果有 Digg 这种打破信息不对称的工具，究竟人们能够挖出更多的金字子，还是会有更多牛仔裤厂？
